Install engine heater and coupé outlet on BMW E60 (5-series)

This is DIY for installing engine heater with coupé outlet (115/230 volt). I used DEFA cables and heater.
My installation was done on 2007 LCI with straight six engine.

All work and installation are on your own risk and responsibility. I don't take any responsibility at all for your installation
neather do I say that my installation are the right way.. But it was my ;-)
I did all work with 12 V connected, but its safer to unplug battery first..

It takes approx 3 hours to install.

First of all collect the tools for it (see picture)
8, 10, 13 and 16 mm socket
Torx TX25 and TX30
PH1 and PH2 screwdriver

Deinstall coupé filter assy and plastics on both sides

At passengerside: Disconnect left cable, turn the right sensor approx 25 degree counterclockwise and lift:
Turn hexagon counterclockwise (lower left corner on filter), release the metal wire lock and take the filter away.

Lift plastic tab upper right and slide righta and loosen the rubber list between left and right fender.

Take away small plastic cover at fender

Do the same at driver side:

Unscrew 3 screws at air inlet (yellow driver) + 1 torx..
Slide plastic at driver side against the middle of the car and remove.
Do the same at passenger side.

Unscrew the top of ECU box and slide white tab to left to unlock and take away the cap.
Warning!! the ECU box contains engine computer and stuff. Take it easy and do not unplug cable/connector or something else.

Pull passenger seat fully backward.

Take away consolcover (see picture) by lifting out rearend and slide it backwards.

Remove the five screws, press plastic little frontwards and down, takeaway smooth as you must release the lamp connector also:

You will see the light from the hole to the ECU box, here at the upper right corner behind all cables...

I push a plastic wire in to help the 115/230 V cable find the way. Take it easy with all cables inside...

Finish the inside and pull cable out to engine department:

One ideá is to push the 115/230 V cable out through one of the rubber seals. Take it easy to not damage any cable.
Seal properly...

Strap 230/115V against the rearend in the ECU box:

Ground the groundwire... Not the best place but it isn't too many to choose from...

Install all filter plastic and rubber seal. Observe the plastic tab:

Lift the car securely and uncover the engine (two plastic covers and one aluframe)
Remember the places of the screws:

and DO NOT DRIVE the car with ALUFRAME DEINSTALLED!

Install the heater (DEFA) at driver side (see DEFA manual)

Pull cable down and attach it to the heater and strap it in place:

Drill a hole for the 115V/230 V plug. Look on the inside first to measure where...

Install the cable up to the connector/splitter block.

Picture down under the generator:

Collect cable behind the front connector, to get a clean engine department:

Test that heater work before installing the plastics downunder..

Ready to take a spinn!
